I began with a small square of Super Sculpey Firm. I've worked with original Sculpey before when building my Sith Acolyte V4 Mask, but this was my first time working with Firm. I read that Firm retains detail much better than the original kind, with little to no chance of constantly ruining the sculpt with finger indents.
Anyway, I carved out the basic shape, and cured it with a heat gun.
Next, I sanded down the edges, and glued on a piece of ABS plastic to make the little ridge at the top.
Then, I put this inside a plastic cup trimmed down to size, and poured in Rebound 25, creating a perfect negative image.
At first I wanted these finger pieces to be cast in resin, however the more I thought about it, the more it made sense to vacuum form them instead. Cast resin had weight, and to have something heavy on your fingers would get annoying pretty quick. So, I made 8 pulls using ONYX resin, which would act as my bucks for vacuum forming.
I set these bad boys on my vacuum forming table, got my .04 gauge ABS sheet ready...
… and did a pull (along with my children's Stormie helmet ear prototypes :)
Here are the pieces after trimming.
After painting them with Testors "Flat Steel" and "Flat Black", and hot-gluing them to the gloves (I went through 3 pairs of gloves trying to figure out the best kind to use)...
...here is the finished product:
